SEAVINGTON CRICKET CLUB FIXTURE CARD - 1948
Copy of Seavington Cricket Club Fixture Card for 1948 Season loaned by Roy Ash.
The Club was formed in 1946, just after the war. They had one of the best Village Cricket Teams in the area.
Vice Presidents fees were £1 per season, players fees were 1 shilling a match including tea. They were the good old days.
Sadly the President and most of the Vice Presidents and Officers are no longer with us, of those we know who are still around Ron Swain and George Sills live,in Crewkerne, Raymond England and Bob Ash live in the village.
For those modern day cricketers who think there were not many runs scored in a match bear in mind the field was kindly loaned by a farmer, the wicket area only was mown. The outfield was long grass used for grazing during the week. The leg glance or fine cut only got you one run, that is if you ran very fast between the wickets. For 4 runs you had to hit the ball very hard over the top of the long grass into the hedge, or run 4 runs if the ball was lost in the grass. To score 6 runs one had to clout the ball right out of the ground.
