The Seavingtons News - May 98
SEAVINGTON MILLENNIUM HALL
The official opening of our new hall took place at 11 am on Saturday 11 th April 1998 as planned, except that due to the weather the whole ceremony was inside instead of starting in the car park.
Some 250 people witnessed the congratulations of Mr Ewen Cameron before he cut the ribbon declaring the hall open. The Blessing was given by Rev Preb Alan Ripley after which Mrs Gail Coleshill, chairman of South Somerset District Council, cut the celebration cake. Other special guests included Lord and Lady Peyton; Peter Ginnever, case officer 21 st Century Halls for England programme and Laurie Uncles, chairman of the Parish Council.
After the opening guests were shown around the hall whilst enjoying the cake with tea, coffee and biscuits.
The day continued with a party in the evening when nearly 200 people enjoyed the music of Trevor Reece and his disco with games for the children. As usual an excellent spread of food was provided by members of the committee and their many helpers, both with food and running the bar.
In addition to having a thoroughly enjoyable evening, with many compliments, we also made just over £300 on the day.
The weekend finished off with the sale of The Pavilion, which is now being dismantled and taken away.
The new hall is already proving an asset to the villages with many bookings for parties, wedding receptions, circuit training and aerobics.
