Entry for Seavington St. Michael
Two early texts of Domesday Book survive for the south-west counties. The version shown is taken from the shorter ‘Exchequer’ one, (in the facsimile version published by the Ordance Survey in 1862).
While the translation shown to the right (from the Victoria History of Somerset, vol.1 1906) is expanded with the phrases which only occur in the fuller ‘Exeter’ text. These additional phrases have been distinguished by single inverted commas in the translation.
