OBITUARIES
Seavington has recently lost two of it’s well known residents.
Henry Clarke
Henry Clarke of 4 Rowdells Orchard died at the Old Vicarage Nursing Home, South Petherton on the 30th of July, aged 83 years.
A jovial man he was born in Seavington, a member of a well known local family, and lived here all his life. He was educated at Seavington School.
A keen sportsman he played football for Shepton Beauchamp, also football and cricket for Seavington.
During the 1939-45 war he served with the Somerset Light Infantry.
A very keen gardener he took a great pride in his vegetables and flowers.
His funeral service took place at Yeovil Crematorium conducted by Rev Bob Murrish.
Rachael Amos
Rachael Amos died at her home, Buckrells, on August the 20th aged 87 years.
Born at Street she lost both her parents when she was very young and was brought up by her Aunt Rachael Kiddle, who was Head Mistress of Seavington School. She attended the local school, also Ilminster Grammar School and Exeter University.
A school teacher she taught at a school near Liverpool also at Buxton, Derbyshire and finally at Sheppy, Kent.
She moved back to Buckrells to live with her sister after her retirement in 1974. She took a keen interest in village activities and was organist at St Michael’s Church.
Her funeral service was held at St Michael’s Church followed by cremation at Yeovil conducted by Rev Alan Ripley.
James Lyon
James Lyon, aged 37, of 3 Prospect Place, Seavington St Mary died shortly after
an accident between Lopen Head and Seavington St Michael.
Mr Lyon had lived in Seavington St Mary for 13 years and ran his business, Lyon Engineering at Blacknell Lane. Crewkerne. He leaves a widow, Helen.
