OBITUARIES
Hilda Haidee (Sally) Joel died at Musgrove Park Hospital on February 27th, she was 81.
A retired Nursing sister she was born at Beckenham in Kent. She came to live at Cross cottage Seavington St Michael over 30 years ago with her friend Marie Selkirk who was also a nursing sister. Miss Selkirk died in 1975.
Sally Joel trained at St Marys Hospital in Paddington and worked as a theatre sister in a Birmingham Hospital.
She had a very distinguished war record being in the Territorials at the outbreak of the 1939-45 war. She went overseas quite early with The Queen Alexander Imperial Nursing Service.
She served in Kenya and Ceylon and in a forward hospital in India where she treated soldiers from the Burma Campaign against the Japanese. She also served in Saigon.
Prior to her retirement she worked at South Petherton Hospital. One of her main hobbies was her love of dogs and exhibiting them at show where she won many awards.
The Funeral service was held at Yeovil Crematorium on March 5th: Thanks to the generosity of her relatives and friends the donations given in her memory for South Petherton Hospital amounted to £286.20.
The death has taken place at Sunnymeade House in Chard of Ethel May Coombes aged 87 years. She lived in part of Seavington House for a number of years with her late husband Ned Stuckey. After Neds death she moved to Ilminster where she remarried.
Her Funeral service was held at Taunton Crematorium on March 23rd.
