Memories from Pamela Wilson (nee Manners)
Extracts from the letter to the History project in December 2010
I was born at Crewkerne Hospital on June 9th 1944.
I lived with my family at 1, Winchester Cottage in Seavington St. Michael opposite the Volunteer Inn until 1956, when S.T.C. moved to Paignton, South Devon.
The cottage was very spartan, with a hand pump outside for water, an outside loo and no bathroom - just a tin bath infront of the fire, no electricity - just oil lamps.
Please find enclosed some photographs from our time in the village, some family and friends, village events such as me as May Queen, our infants class outside the school, now your house. (The photos can be seen in the Family Album Gallery)
My mum, dad and sister Jeanette moved to Ilminster during the war in 1941 when S.T.C. relocated there, later moving to Seavington.
I hope you and your colleagues enjoy the photos and use some in your archive.
Our very good friends Doug and Elsie Coveney and girls Ann & Christine, lived in the thatched cottage just up the road from your home (the school).
John & I visited Seavington earlier this year, we had a lovely lunch at the Volunteer Inn and a nostalgic walk around the much changed but still lovely village.
