WYVERN JUBILEE MORRIS MEN
Its Morris season again and although we are very low on numbers we have managed to perform more or less weekly.
To kick off the season we indulged in a splendid Brunch at the Volunteer on May Day bank holiday and after this had settled we burnt off a few of the calories by dancing seven or eight dances for a small Seavington audience. We then headed off to the Rose and Crown, Dinnington where more dancing was accomplished to a slightly larger crowd. After an hour or so we were treated to sausages, roast potatoes and piles of sandwiches. We did manage a few more dances but it was not long before the heat of the sun, the thirst quenching effect of the ale and the vast quantifies of food forced us to call it a day.
Since then, on our usual Wednesday evening tours we have been to Melbury Osmond, Ilminster, Dowlish Wake, Sparkford, West Camel, Chiselborough, Merriot, Charlton Mackrell, Kingsdon, Montacute and Ham Hill, as well as dancing at Lady Spicer’s Garden Party at Melplash Court on 24th May.
On 8th July we are off on an evening train tour which is usually organised chaos but great fun. We leave Yeovil Junction at 7.OOpm and start dancing at Gillingham at 7.30pm. Next stop is Templecombe and we eventually move back to Yeovil at 10.59pm. 15th July we are at the Windwhistle at 7.45pm followed by the Travellers Rest at Roundham at 8.45pm. 22nd July is the Royal Oak at Barrington 7.45pm and the Canal Inn, Wrantage at 8.45pm. 29th July at 7.45pm we will be at the Duke of York, Shepton Beauchamp and at 8.45pm at the Volunteer.
We’re also off for a weekend “Ale” (where a load of teams get together to tour various towns by coach and spend a weekend eating large meals, dancing and having the occasional pint!) in Doncaster 17th-19th July.
Just to remind, anybody out there who is interested in joining us next season we start to practice Wednesday 16th September 1992 at the Preston Community Centre in Yeovil (Preston School) but you can meet us and get all the relevant details on 29th July at the Volunteer.
