SEAVINGTON STITCHERS
I have been advised that there: are persons around who would like to know more about the activities in the village. As Secretary of the `Snitchers’ (a nickname we have recent] acquired) I shall venture to give some publicity to our group.
The ‘Stitchers’ committee were formed in May 1982 with the purpose of promoting the purchase of land on or behalf
of the village or part of the existing playing fields. It also encouraged the women of the village, from all walks of life, of varying ages, to meet once a week and get to know each other. During these meetings various projects would be undertaken to raise money. Sewing, knitting, crocheting; and embroidery skills would be welcome but not a necessity for joining. An interest in handicraft was sufficient. Over the years projects have included the kneelers for St. Michael’s Church, two large patchwork quilts, both of which were raffled, various knitted layettes, Christmas Crackers and a11 sorts of other goods. Coffee mornings and Christmas Fairs have been held in members houses over the years to raise as much money as possible for our purpose.
We are of course also responsible for what now seems to be that regular get to-ether, the cheese and wine party.
This is not so much a money raiser but the other aim of our group, a meeting for the people of the village to become better acquainted with our new arrivals.
Currently we meet every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to midday in the home of one of our members. Those with transport pick up those without transport. As the venue changes from week to week, a phone call to me, Irene Williams, on S.P. 41886 will put you in the picture. So come along any of you that may have felt a little shy, as one of the newer members of the ‘Stitchers’ surely I am making you an offer you can’t refuse.
