Seavington Playing Fields Association
SEAVINGTON PLAYING FIELDS ASSOCIATION - Seavington News - April 1993
The financial year for the Seavington Playing Fields Association ended on 31 st March and the accounts are in the process of being audited in readiness for the AGM on Tuesday 18th May, 7.30pm at the Pavilion.
Not only has the Association been more evident with their fundraising this year but much more has been spent than in recent years. In answer to one comment made in last month’s Newsletter, in response to the questionnaire regarding the proposed new Village Hall, the total spent by the Association this year on the play equipment is approximately £1,300. Repairs to existing equipment, revamping the mound and fitting the new slide comes to £400. The new log climbing frame cost £756, and the few safety tiles to be laid at the bottom of the slide £144. The committee now feel that until a definite decision is made with regard to the siting of the proposed new village hall no further improvements will be made to the play equipment. However, any necessary repairs will be carried out. The equipment is inspected each year by Wicksteeds and the District Council and any recommendations are carried out. Pavilion costs- general day to day £511, plus the improvements that had to be carried out to the kitchen area £384. (This figure was kept relatively low by the unpaid labour element). Lettings income was some £560. Field maintenance (£1700) has increased this year due in part to a a rather large bill that had to be paid to repair the gang mowers. However, it is hoped that steps taken by the committee will mean that this will not happen again in the near future. However, due to the very successful fund raising carried out during the year - Gala Week £598, Bingo evenings £470, Quiz evenings £176 the bank balance has only decreased by some £500. It is hoped however, that we can now curtail our expenditure and that if the lottery numbers can be increased we can donate monies raised at any future Bingo or Quiz evenings to the new Village Hall Fund.
On behalf of the Association I would like to thank all those who have supported us during the past year. Those who have donated prizes for the bingo evenings, those who have lottery tickets, those who came to any of the events held etc etc. We would also like to thank those who have turned out to help with work parties when required, and lent tools, vehicles and machinery in order to get the pavilion and field in its present condition. In order to achieve this there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes. °
Please remember the AGM on 18th May and please come to show your support for the Committee. If you have some spare time and would like to serve on the Committee or if you just have ideas on how we can improve the playing field or the pavilion or for fund raising this is your opportunity to let us know. In order to maintain the Playing Field in its present condition we need your support - not only with money but also ideas and views.
The Bingo Evening held at the end of March raised £141.50. An enjoyable evening was had by all who attended and our thanks must go once again to our caller - Alan Payne. Most of us now know how to whistle after “legs eleven” and quack after “two little ducks”. The Easter bonnet competition was well supported. The best child’s entry was Lisa Sharland, but runners up prizes were given to Christopher Payne, Emma Gough, Adam Gough Dean Gillard, Karl and David Hughes and Lucy Ash. Best ladies entry was Janet Goode and the men’s prize was shared by Tony Tolman and Chris Gough. Winners of the draw held on that evening were Janet Goode, Bob Ash and C Ritchie.
