The Chislett Family

Chisletts – Seavington St Mary
For the past 15 or so years l have been researching the Chislett families from
Seavington St Mary. The Chisletts first appeared in the village in the 1740’s and
were quite prominent until the late 1800’s, by the 1920’s the name had
disappeared from’ Seavington. The last marriage recorded in the parish register
was that of Mary Ann Chislett who married Walter. Baker (Widower) Railway
worker in 1921.
Over the years the Chisletts married into the following Seavington families:

Note - John’s seoond marriage, first marriage was to Honnor Witherall at Dinnington 1820

1885 Thomas to Unity Gummer (Seavington St Michael)
John Chlslett, carpenter born 1799 died 1876, was a prominent member of the
Wesleyan and Bible Christians being made a steward in 1841. He sold his
premises in Dark Lane to the Sect for the building of the Beulah Chapel (now a
private residence). ln his will proved 1876 he left the following properties
The dwelling house next to the well to daughter Elizabeth, wife of Henry Barrett
House no: 2 from the well to daughter Selina, wife of George Hutchings
House no: 3 from the well to my daughter Elizabeth Green, wife of John Green
House no: 5 from the well to my son William Chlslett
House no: 4 occupied by me to my son Charles Chislett
