John Chislett 1799-1876 - Beulah Chapel
William (Bill) Chislett contacted the History Project with the following message:
Re A history project on the houses for the two villages. There are tythe maps in the SRO and details of the alms houses sold off by the Church in the 19c. The volume 78 of the Somerset Records Society contains details of the Bible Christians who build Bulah Chapel now a private residence in Dark Lane. My GGG Grandfather John Chislett (1799-1876 Carpenter)sold the land to the society and was an active member. The volume contains many names of SSMary inhabitants who were members. In his will he left five cottages that were sited by the well (I take it to be the pump)he owned to five of his six children. His eldest son John my GG grandfather was not left anything perhaps because he became a publican after his retirement from the Royal Marines. His other two sons Charles and William emigrated to Canada. Charles married Emma Marsh in 1850 at SSM. I have a photo of Emma if you would like it for the the magazine. Regards Bill Chislett Bath.
